SOHUCO-Mama Asome Center

The meeting of gender, creativity and excellence!

  The Human Solidarity Association in Congo- Center Mama ASOME (Human Solidarity in Congo- Let's educate women Center) "SOHUCO-Centre Mama Asome" in acronym is a non-profit association whose headquarters are based in Uvira, South Kivu in Democratic Republic of Congo.

 

Founded by a well-known educator and agent of change, Emmanuel Maneno Magera and called "Prefect Maneno", SOHUCO-Centre Mama Asome works with women, young girls and men for the promotion of education for all, for the equal opportunities between women and men for a balanced society, for vocational training and entrepreneurship for young girls and boys.

Our approach to work is based on love of neighbor, community work and the mobilization of synergies without any discrimination based on gender, race, color, faith and origins.

 

SOHUCOS focuses its activities on:

​

  • Literacy for women and men for educational continuity adapted to their needs

  • Community fields to fight malnutrition and household poverty

  • A vocational training center for young girls and boys in tailoring and basket weaving

  • Microfinance for the empowerment and financial independence of women, key actors in the development of the family

  • Income-generating activities for women and young people in the soap factory and the bakery

  • Emergency humanitarian aid focused on African community solidarity in the event of fire, disaster and epidemics.

The mission of Solidarité Hulmaine au Congo-Centre Mama Asome "SOHUCO-Centre Mama Asome is to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the populations and to the promotion of the culture of respect for gender and equal opportunities for all .

Our vision

Build strong, prosperous and fulfilled local communities with a well assumed role of women  educated, autonomous and independent actress  socio-economic development of the community.

We strongly believe that all women can empower themselves, define their future, and can change the world. 

Our Mission

1.  Offer accelerated remedial education services for the disadvantaged masses with a view to their integration into the formal adult literacy education system and encourage the education of young girls from poor families

2.  Promoting women and youth entrepreneurship through learning trades and art

3.  Strengthen the productive capacity of peasant farmers and breeders in improving their agropastoral productivity and their grouping within a cooperative in order to fight against malnutrition and poverty in rural areas

4.  Improve the quality of education (primary and secondary) in its radius of action

5.  Contribute to the development of health structures in communities that have been victims of wars and cyclical violence
6.
  Contribute to the restoration of forest ecosystems and environmental education
7.
  Promote the socio-economic and cultural reintegration of people who are victims of discrimination, in particular people living with HIV/AIDS, those with disabilities, illiterates and unaccompanied children.

1. Become a center of excellence in Arts et Métiers training in Uvira for women.
2. Restore women's dignity, independence and freedom for flourishing and prosperous communities
3. Integrate digital into agribusiness and support the vision of modernizing services in the City of Uvira and its surroundings.
4. Provide Uvira with a women's agro-pastoral cooperative and a modern flour mill that processes our agricultural products 
5. Provide Uvira with a STEM and Leadership Academy for the training of young girls in the sciences of innovation and sustainable and integrated development.
